My Father

by Yehuda Amichai

The memory of my father is wrapped up in
white paper, like sandwiches taken for a day at work.

Just as a magician takes towers and rabbits
out of his hat, he drew love from his small body,

and the rivers of his hands
overflowed with good deeds.

Powerful. Beautiful tribute to a parent. The father is so often the guiding light in our lives. The mother, a satellite. The word "sandwiches", wow. I immediately thought of my own father, and the stakeholder role he plays in my life. Fathers are such special people. Amichai is a poet for the ages, and for this time. More relevant than ever. Let us not forget him.

An incredible and legitimate poem by yet another poet I cannot ignore.

A true poem, in the sense that it permeates and says the reality of real fathers.
